Different Types of Metal Fabrication
At Bemis
Sheet Metal, Inc., we offer full-service metal
fabrication in Houston, TX. Metal fabrication refers to the process of
turning raw materials into specific parts or components that will be used for
the assembly of various items in later phases of production.
Everything from auto
parts and tools to kitchen utensils and appliances are the result of metal
fabrication. There are a few different
forms of custom metal fabrication, and the method (or methods) we use
will depend on the parts our customer needs us to make. These methods include:
Casting - Here, molten
metal is poured into a mold to produce a standardized part for mass production.
Die Casting - Liquid
metal is pushed into a die with high pressure until it hardens into the desired
shape.
Cutting - Cutting is
when pre-shaped metal parts are divided into smaller pieces via plasma
torching, water jet cutting, computer numerical controlled (CNC) cutting, or
other methods.
Machining - A lathe is
used to cut the metal into the desired shape.
Punching - Holes are
punched into the metal.
Stamping - Shapes, such
as raised letters, are pressed into the metal sheet without puncturing it.
Welding - Heat and
pressure are used to conjoin two pieces of metal.
